Time tracking and invoicing
with real Jira sync
Jira logs the work. It doesn't invoice it. Tallymeter closes that gap: track time against a ticket, push it onto the Jira worklog, and turn the same hours into a client-ready PDF invoice — one source of truth, no double entry.
Push time you tracked in Tallymeter onto the Jira issue as a worklog, or pull existing Jira worklogs back in. Log your hours wherever you already work — they line up on both sides.
The hours on a ticket become a numbered PDF invoice with your rate, business details and bank info — in the same tool. Jira tracks the time; Tallymeter bills it.
Sync only ever adds what is missing and is safe to re-run — it never edits or deletes an existing worklog. Where hours disagree, it flags the ticket for you to reconcile by hand.
How the sync works
Sync runs one ticket at a time, in the direction you choose, and is built to be run again without making a mess. Nothing happens in the background — you stay in control of what lands in Jira and what gets billed.
Tallymeter finds the time you tracked against a ticket key (like ACME-142) that is not in Jira yet and creates one worklog per entry. Run it again and nothing duplicates — each entry remembers the worklog it created.
Already logged the time in Jira? Pull the ticket's worklogs into Tallymeter so they are ready to invoice alongside everything else. It only pulls your own worklogs and skips anything already linked.
A "Tracker vs Jira" table on the Invoices page shows, per ticket, what matches and what does not — with push and pull buttons and a refresh. Hours that differ are never changed silently; you get a link to open the ticket in Jira and sort it out yourself.
Jira worklogs vs Tallymeter
| Tallymeter | Native Jira worklogs | |
|---|---|---|
| Billable rate on tracked time | Included | Not tracked on worklogs |
| Client-ready PDF invoice | Built in | None — export elsewhere |
| Time → invoice in one tool | Yes | No, separate billing step |
| Sync with your Jira worklogs | Two-way, push or pull | n/a — it is the source |
| Safe to re-run (no overwrites) | Yes, create-only | n/a |
| Best fit | Freelancers & teams billing Jira work | Teams who only need hours in Jira |
Log the hours once
Most Jira setups log time twice: once on the ticket for the team, once again in a billing tool for the client. Tallymeter keeps the two in step — the hours on the worklog and the hours on the invoice are the same hours, reconciled per ticket, so the number you bill is the number you worked.
When you don't need this
We'd rather be honest than win the wrong customer. Stick with native Jira — or a dedicated timesheet app — if:
- • You track time in Jira purely for internal reporting, not to invoice a client.
- • You need enterprise timesheet approvals, planning and capacity across a large team — a dedicated Jira app like Tempo is built for that.
- • Your billable work doesn't live in Jira tickets in the first place.
If you bill for Jira work — solo or as a team — Tallymeter does exactly that job with far less surface area.
